Our goal is to facilitate successful transition of CF program digital assets, including their datasets, tools and workflows, as well as e-Learning materials. We are committed to sustain the wealth of knowledge contributed by the CF programs via education, outreach, and dissemination programs.

We aim to serve as ambassadors to advocate and to champion the grand accomplishments of the CFDE community.

Our efforts will further highlight the success of CF programs, amplify their impacts, and extend this invaluable treasure to benefit the wider biomedical community, and to inspire new innovations.

  • To create a prioritized shortlist of IC-specific, specialized, and public repositories
  • To assemble a catalog of CF programs that are within 3 years of close out
  • To identify appropriate repositories based on CF program needs
  • To develop best practices for managing, storing, and sharing data for CF programs.
  • To assist CF DCCs as needed with the transfer of data and resources to long-term repositories.
  • To work with CT on transition plans for training materials.
  • To facilitate and support the commercialization of CF products.
ICC Workflow

As we work to create smooth transitions, we will focus on the following:

To enable smooth data transitioning efforts and maximize dissemination and community re-use, we define five action items as guiding principles for CF data transfer: Meet, Assess, Transfer, Coordinate, Handover (MATCH):

  1. Meet. At the onset of launching the ICC-SC, we will invite CF programs to meet with suitable IC-specific, specialized, and public repositories to identify challenges and opportunities in 3 consecutive matchmaking conferences. We envision these opportunities will encourage them to romance, date, and negotiate a decision to select future partners in stewardship of their digital assets based on their specific needs. Dating with multiple parties is encouraged and promoted (3 or fewer is recommended) per their mutual agreements.
  2. Assess. The ICC-SC will help identify needs of both parties to collaborate on a plan for data governance following the devised SOPs for Digital Asset Transfer and Data Management. These protocols will clearly define stewardship responsibilities of both parties, and management of data access and storage.
  3. Transfer. The process of comprehensive and secure digital asset transfer will begin with the CF program creating an inventory for all digital files, metadata, and software tools. Based on the nature of CF program assets, they will be transferred according to outlined SOPs on Privacy and Security, including transfer of user roles and permissions from the CF hosts to the new host.
  4. Coordinate. The ICC-SC will establish a Digital Asset Transfer working group (WG) consisting of CF leadership and relevant data repositories; the WG will facilitate a transition period in which both parties coordinate closely to ensure smooth transition of stewardship. The WG will monitor and review the secure relocation of the assets and implement backup, versioning, and recovery strategies where applicable. This 3-6 month timeframe acts as a security buffer to ensure complete transfer of CF program assets.
  5. Handover. Upon completion of the transition period, responsibilities will be handed over to the new steward, with partial ownership retained by the CF programs negotiated where applicable.
